Barbara holds John Singer Sargent as her hero in portrait painting. Often after her classes at the Art Students League, Barbara will walk over to the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art to study his paintings. Recently her favorite painting, “Madame X” has been on the mezzanine floor in visible storage, which makes looking at Sargent's brushstrokes even easier. And while she sometimes gets frustrated by a portrait that she is working on, she loves to recall Sargent's words: “A portrait is a painting with something wrong with the mouth.”
Barbara has studied oil painting with the following art teachers:
Trent Burleson (1994)
Robert Cenedella (2011)
Fritz Drury (1995)
Mary Beth McKenzie (2010/1)
Susan Doyle-Shedd (1996)
Bruce Turner (One day session, 2010)
