Barbara's painting series, "The Places We Shop" began in 2007, for a show at the Pingree School. She painted on location, in the plein air/alla prima style, to capture the essence of big chain stores versus small independent shops. The comparisons across industries were interesting enough to keep her adding to the show year after year. An article about this series was published in North Shore Living Magazine: Holiday Issue 2008.
Today, many of "The Places We Shop" acrylic paintings have found homes in the stores they depict. Peek in on on these Ipswich stores to see for yourself: Conley's Drugstore, Tedford & Martin, Forget-Me-Not, Salon 36 and Christopher's Table.
